Marissa Fire Department
The Marissa Fire Department is a public fire, rescue, and Emergency Medical Services organization operating under the provisions of the Illinois Fire Protection District Act.
The Marissa Fire Department provides fire suppression and emergency rescue services within the boundaries of the District in St. Clair, Randolph, and Washington Counties in the state of Illinois.
The Marissa Fire Protection Department is contracted on an annual basis by the Marissa Fire Protection District Board of Trustees. It comprises volunteers who make up the Marissa Fire Department. The Fire Chief is appointed by the District Board of Trustees and shall oversee all operations within the Marissa Fire Department.
The Marissa Fire Department was established in 1900, and the Marissa Fire Protection District in 1969. It covers approximately 55 square miles of rural and urban areas in Southern St. Clair County, Western Washington County, and Northern Randolph County in southwestern Illinois.
The Fire Department consists of around 30 members who devote their time to helping our community become a safer place each and every day. The members of the Marissa Fire Department respond to, on average, 100 fire and rescue incidents and about 350 Emergency Medical Service incidents each year. Members are required to meet the minimum training standards set forth by the board of trustees each year to remain in active status with the Marissa Fire Department.
The Marissa Fire Department provides Fire and Rescue services, Non-Transport Basic Life Support Services, various technical rescues such as vehicle and machinery rescues, high- and low-angle rope rescues, Swiftwater and Ice Water Rescues, and offers community outreach courses at no cost to residents within the Marissa Fire Protection District.
The Marissa Fire Protection District comprises a 5-member board of trustees, with three trustees appointed by St. Clair County, one by Washington County, and one by Randolph County.
The Marissa Fire Protection District contracts the Marissa Fire Department to provide fire and rescue services to the citizens who reside within the Marissa Fire Protection District.
The Marissa Fire Department meets on the second Monday of each month at the Marissa Fire Station at 7 pm for a regular business meeting unless otherwise advertised.
The Marissa Fire Protection District Board of Trustees meets on the second Wednesday of each month at the Marissa fire station at 7 pm unless otherwise advertised
